Monique and James are our Mother and Son duo. In 2012, Monique became a single Mom. She wanted to find something for herself and James (almost 6 at the time) to do together to take their mind off of what was going on. So, she and James went to the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire for the first time where the encountered the Cosplay World, and they fell in love with it.
James has had a love for wearing costumes and dressing up his whole life, but in 2013, they cosplayed for the first time when they returned to the Renaissance Fair. From there, their love for Cosplay grew. They started with Steampunk, which allowed them to create their own characters. They both have a love for Steampunk, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Superheroes, Disney, Anime, Video Games and more.
Their latest creations and current favorite are Maleficent and her Raven Diaval. Monique is a crafter at heart and has either pieced together their cosplays with purchased/thrifted items, has made them from scratch, or both.
Monique and James’ love for cosplay grows and grows. They both joined Kids Can Cosplay in the summer of 2018, for the 4th of July parade. Their favorite part about cosplaying is giving their time to Kids Can Cosplay at various charity events. Bringing smiles to children and adults is the best part about cosplaying and charity work, besides the costumes of course.
Monique’s parents have also been a big part of their cosplay life and they join in as often as they can. Monique and James look forward to the future with Kids Can Cosplay and cosplaying in general. This Mother, Son duo have a very special bond that has gotten them through some tough times.
Their day to day life includes homeschooling (since 1st grade), James playing hockey as a goalie and skating out and he is also a Cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. Monique enjoys crafting and they both love spending time with family.
